Friendly Visitor/Tel-A-Care Program

What is the Friendly Visitor/Tel-A-Care Program?

The Friendly Visitor/Tel-A-Care Program, connects a trained volunteer to a person who is home bound. People who are visited regularly decrease their social isolation, have someone to talk to, have someone who can check on their safety, and feel connected to their community.

Volunteers provide friendly conversation and help with daily tasks such as light reading, writing letters and going for walks.

Friendly Visitor Goals:

  • Reaching out into the community to provide companionship to people who are socially isolated in their home and to increase their connection to their community.
  • Offering services to help maintain a healthy quality of life.

Who will be served?

Program clients are senior citizens of Lackawanna County, age 60 and older who live alone and are in need of socialization.

Tel-A-Care volunteers make regularly scheduled telephone calls from their homes to home bound clients providing a safety check while maintaining friendly contact with the client.

For more information call Kellie Sheakoski or E-mail k.sheakoski@telespond.org

The Friendly Visitor/Tel-A-Care Program is funded in part under a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners through the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging.
